Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of social capital in supporting the resilience of Islamic education on Midai Island, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province. Islamic education in 3T (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) areas such as Midai continues to exist despite facing various limitations, ranging from infrastructure to uneven state policies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions (FGD). The results show that social capital in the form of kinship networks, active community participation, Islamic values and norms, and trust in educational institutions are the main pillars in maintaining the sustainability and quality of Islamic education in Midai. This resilience is manifested in the existence of madrasahs and TPQs that thrive on community support, rather than state intervention. These findings reinforce the theory that social capital is an intangible asset that determines the resilience of educational institutions in marginalized areas.
